Soil organisms in ecological context from sampling to data integration

22-27 May 2022 The Steinhardt Museum of Natural History, Tel Aviv, Israel

Goal Provide introductive tools to study soil organisms in an ecological context in order to consider soil biodiversity’s ecological role. Content will include basic taxonomic knowledge, taxon identification, understanding of biological traits, specimen curation, and integration of collected data. Method In-person training school with lectures, workshop sessions, fieldwork, and final exams of the studied knowledge. Days 1-2 Introduction to soil biology Day 3 Field day (field methods) Day 4 Laboratory taxon id and curation Day 5 Final assignments Day 6 Post TS Tour Participation of up to 25 candidates Students, Postdocs, Professional employees, and any person affiliated with an institute from a COST member state may apply. All trainees must register an e-COST profile here. Each trainee must add their bank details to their e-COST profile. Local trainees (from Israel) are not eligible for reimbursement. Registration costs Free of charge, the TS Management will therefore apply a registration and selection procedure for trainees. Other costs Travel, accommodation and insurances and other costs not being registration costs have to be paid by the trainee him/herself. Reimbursement Eligible trainees will receive reimbursement for travel, accommodation, and meals only if they have received (and accepted) the official invitation through e-COST (to be expected in early May).

Registration procedure of trainees Applications open: 25th March 2022 Applications close: 19 th April 2022. However, first come first served! Announcement of the selected trainees and their reimbursement: 30th April 2022 Official invitation by e-COST to participate in the Training School: 10th May 2022
